The first 76 turbines were purchased by Portland General Electric in November 2006. The first electricity was generated at Biglow in the middle of October 2007 with ten Vestas V82 wind turbines. In December 2007, the first phase of the wind farm development became operational. In August 2009, the second phase of the wind farm was completed. The completion of the second phase of the project had a generating capacity of 275 MW.
Biglow Canyon wind farm is generating future tax revenues, providing income for local businesses and creating employment besides generating power. The third phase of the Biglow Canyon wind farm project is expected to be completed by late 2010 with total generating capacity of 450 MW.
