The E11 Highway:
The E11 highway in the United Arab Emirates is the longest road in the UAE. It stretches from the emirate of Abu Dhabi and ends in emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The road is roughly parallel to the Arabian Gulf coastline of the UAE. The road passes through various emirates in the UAE and becomes known by different names in each of those emirates. In the emirate of Dubai, this road is known as the Sheikh Zayed Road.
The Sheikh Zayed Road:
As mentioned above, the E11 is known by the name of Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. The road was formerly known as the Defense Road. Between the year 1993 and the year 1998, there was a lot of renovation done on this road. 19 miles of this road was expanded. Along with the expansion came an amendment in the name of the road. The then Sheikh of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, renamed Sheikh Zayed Road after the name of the then president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
