Candy canes are quite popular among kids, but the Candy Cane Cookies will surely be a new treat for them. In short, an easy to prepare dessert which will be loved by the kids!


Ingredients


Butter/shortening – 1 cup Powdered sugar – 1 cup Sugar - 1/2 cup Egg - 1 Almond extract – 1 1/2 tsp Peppermint candy - 1/2 cup

Flour – 2 1/2 cups Red food coloring - 1/2 tsp Vanilla – 1 tsp Salt - 1/2 tsp


Method


In a bowl mix the shortening, egg, flavoring and sugar. Add salt in the flour and add it to the shortening mixture. Divide the dough into half and add red coloring to one half of the dough. On floured board, roll 1 tbsp of dough into strips of about 4 inches. Place one white strip and one red strip side by side, twist them together and bend it in a similar way as candy cane. Place the cookies on a cookie sheet and bake them for 9 minutes at 375 F. Sprinkle peppermint candy and sugar when warm and ice it when cool.
